Social Commitment

Social Commitment

SPARK helps Stanford fulfill its mission of social responsibility, helping to translate the university’s academic endeavors into medical applications that advance human health.

Since much of Stanford’s research is supported by government funding, Stanford has a public trust to give back to society. SPARK creates an environment that facilitates the transfer of academic discovery into important new medical therapies that will promote human health and alleviate suffering from disease. Many of these new therapies will make medical care more cost-effective and affordable, making positive contributions to our nation’s health and economy.

SPARK is also committed to developing treatments and diagnostics for rare conditions and diseases of the developing world. Stanford faculty who research these diseases face formidable barriers in bringing their discoveries to patients. SPARK partners with investigators to overcome the development obstacles that prevent new therapies from reaching these patients.
